THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT BINDING AND LOOSING by Dr. Kelley Varner
These are critical, serious days. Nation-wide, key men and women in the Body of Christ and strategic ministries are experiencing extreme spiritual birth pangs as they move forward into their predetermined destiny. I recently preached here at Richlands, “The Lord is our Refuge” (Psa. 46:1). Our Refuge is a Person. In the Person there is a place. In the place, there is a peace. In the peace, there is a posture, and that posture is one that says, “Go forward! Attack! Charge!” In this season, we must be on the offensive, not laid back.
“…upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18).
This verse has been misinterpreted. God’s people are not being attacked here. We are storming the gates of hell, and they cannot resist us! Darkness cannot overcome light (Jn. 1:5). Similarly, we have misunderstood the principle of BINDING and LOOSING.
God put his first son Adam in the Garden with a serpent, and told him to take dominion. The Pattern Son arose out of the Garden and defeated the enemy. But Christ’s victory in His death, burial, and especially His resurrection needs to be understood, acknowledged, apprehended, and then manifested. …
“I will surely gather all of you, O Jacob; I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture; the place will throng with people. One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their king will pass through before them, the LORD at their head” (Micah 2:12-13, NIV).
Jesus is the Messianic “BREAKER” (KJV), the One with the BREAK-THROUGH anointing (Acts 10:38). It is time for the Church to break through every limitation in His Name! This BREAKER anointing is arising in the FACE—the nature and character—of a people. HE must break through our understanding and rend the veil of all fleshly thinking. This Breaker, this Christ and His Kingdom in us and through us must be brought to bear upon every other Kingdom around us!
How can we release and manifest this kind of Kingdom authority, this power of the Most High God from the Most Holy Place? We must grasp the real truth about BINDING AND LOOSING.
“And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt BIND on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matt. 16:19).
This word for “BIND” is the primary verb “DEO,” and it means, “to bind; to put under obligation; used of the law, duty; to be bound to one, a wife, a husband.” “DEO” is a covenantal word, and primarily speaks of MARRIAGE and COVENANT, a living relationship.
I am not doing away with our binding the enemy (Psa. 149:6-9). But I want to show you a higher truth about binding and loosing.
Hear this key principle: WHAT YOU BIND—WHAT YOU DECLARE LEGALLY BINDING—IS WHAT YOU ARE!
Either CHRIST (His new nature and authority) is bound to us or ADAM (our old nature) is bound to us. Adam was killed at the Cross. As new creatures in Christ Jesus, we have now arisen to walk in newness of life (Rom. 6:4; 2 Cor. 5:17-21). Everything now depends on HOW we think (Prov. 23:7), and how we THINK will determine how we will ACT. Do you have a RESURRECTION (victorious) mindset? Are you attacking hell or is hell attacking you?
In Matt. 16:18, the Church is to move aggressively against the GATES (access or entrance to any state) of hell. The strategies and schemes that originate in death and hell come into the earth through PEOPLE who are “GATES.” Contrariwise, the Mind of Christ that originates in the Heavens comes into the earth through PEOPLE who are the “WINDOWS” (floodgates, sluice gates) of heaven (Mal. 3:10)!
Matt. 6:10, KJV Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
The Church has been directionally challenged! It is time for us to attack the GATES (the SPIRITS behind certain situations and circumstances), and bring His glory into the earth. The Breaker Company must lead the way and release His Kingdom by manifesting the character of Christ. We must take the life of the Most Holy Place out into the earth. We have no veil over our face—this Glory now raises up and out of His divine nature from within!
“…Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim (the place of breaking through)” (1 Chron. 14:11).
This BREAKTHROUGH is also pictured as a BIRTHING, the breaking forth of waters from the “womb of the morning” in this new day (Psa. 110:3). Our waters have broken. Intense birth pangs now signal the fulfillment of individual and corporate destiny. The Son of promise is about to swallow up every Ishmael (Gal. 4:21-31). Get ready to laugh! This night has been long and dark for some of us, but joy comes in the morning (Psa. 30:5 with Prov. 13:12)!
We are BOUND to Christ and His finished work! We must AGREE in the earth with what has ALREADY BEEN BOUND COVENANTALLY in the Heavens (Amos 3:3), the “good report” of what our Father has already decreed over us (Prov. 15:30; Isa. 53:1; Phil. 4:8).
In this Third Day, we are NOT binding the enemy, but rather with our LIFE and LIP binding ourselves to Christ’s PERSON and WORK.
To not AGREE with HIM and His Word is to tear ourselves LOOSE from His loving EMBRACE!
We must BIND OURSELVES to all that which is BINDING IN CHRIST!
AGREE with God about YOURELF. AGREE with God about YOUR FAMILY. AGREE with God about YOUR CHURCH and YOUR MINISTRY. AGREE with God about AMERICA and the NATIONS!
“…but [your soul] shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God…” (1 Sam. 25:29).
Again, that which you declare legally binding is what you are! Let us arise and say with Mary, a habitation of purity (the virgin Church):
“…Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; be it done to me according to your word…” (Luke 1:38, NAS).
